Today, I’m on my way back after visiting my hometown for one of the most important milestones in my family’s life, my dad’s retirement after 44 years of service with India Post.
Before I left, I promised myself I wouldn’t cry. I thought it would be an emotional farewell.
Instead, I came back feeling something even stronger than emotion: pride.
The words spoken by his colleagues are still replaying in my mind. Growing up, I had heard countless stories from my dad about his work, the challenges, the long days, and the responsibilities. I thought I knew his journey.
But listening to the people who worked beside him made me realize there was so much more to his story than he ever told us.
They didn’t just speak about an employee who completed 44 years of service. They spoke about a man they respected, trusted, and genuinely admired.
That made me look at my Nanna in a completely different light.
He began his career as a Dak Sevak, when India Post was still evolving and mobile post offices were a remarkable idea. Today, he retires in an era where almost everything has become digital.
He didn’t just witness the transformation of India Post. He grew with it, adapted with it, and dedicated his life to serving people through every phase of that change.

As his daughter, I grew up watching him leave for work every day, never complaining, always committed. At the time, it simply felt normal. Today, I understand what dedication truly looks like.
Thank you, Nanna.
Thank you for showing me that professionalism isn’t about titles. It’s about integrity.
Thank you for teaching me that values matter even when no one is watching.
Thank you for proving that a meaningful career is built one honest day at a time.
If I become even half the person you are, I’ll consider that one of my greatest achievements.
Congratulations on your retirement. You’ve earned every bit of the respect that filled the room that day, and I’ll carry that pride with me for the rest of my life.
