How to Organize a Small Home – 9 Easy-Peasy Ways!

While there are plenty of ways to decorate your home in the way you love, it is often tough to find the easiest way to organize your small home when you have lots of stuff

Living in small rental homes is quite common these days. But Organizing a rental home can be disastrous.

With inflation hitting us harder and the major saving goals, we have to compromise ourselves to live in small homes in the biggest cities.

But, as said in the saying “Where there is a will, there is a way“, It is not that hard to organize your small home.

In fact, it is much better to organize a small home without having too much stuff around.

I have lived in small homes all along with my life to this date.

Sharing a small room with my sister is always fun until we fight for our favorite clothes 😛

Staying in a small hostel room wasn’t something I dreamt of, while I was in college. But, I enjoyed it with some organizing tips, and living with my best friends made it much easier.

Now that, I am wise and older enough, I have thought of more ways to make my small home organized and live the life I want.

What are the easiest ways to organize Your Small Home with No Storage!

1. Go Minimalist – Buy Only Stuff You Need

Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not giving the pep talk about being minimalist. Instead, I only want to describe the benefits of being minimalist.

Don’t overbuy the stuff and later struggle to find space for it at your home. Be choosy while buying the stuff for your home.

This helps you organize the things that you already have at home in a better way!

Tip : Make a list of items that you need before you go out, but only the items on the list.

2. Invest in Inexpensive Home Organization Ideas

While we tend to buy a lot of space-saving storage ideas, it is important to remember that too much of items also cause a mess at home.

And it will be tough to carry all these items to a new home when you move.

So Invest in storage solutions that are not expensive, but smart enough to solve our storage problems.

Tip: Organize all the glasses in one huge plate, rather than buying a rack for placing glasses & plates.

3. Prepare yourself for DIYs

Bring out that creative side. Rather than buying so much stuff online & offline, it gives a lot of relief when you prepare the solution yourself.

I use all the amazon delivery boxes that come with a package, as my storage boxes for kitchen shelves.

4. Use the vertical spaces

All of us have cupboards in almost all homes, make sure you use them wisely.

Make a way for vertical spaces to use them to the fullest.

You can also use the other side of the door to hang like these..

Tips: I personally use wall hooks, and hangings to the other side of the cupboard to hang frequently used accessories like keys, headphones, and chargers.

5. Use Shelves Wisely

Make sure you use the shelves at home wisely

• Make sure you keep everything closed in the kitchen shelves. Do not let any grocery or snack packet open. It stinks the cupboard and doesn’t look organized.
• If it’s a kitchen, use stackable containers and tins to avoid falling when you open the cupboard.
• Organize the plastic items, the same kind of utensils, or leftover snacks in a closed tray if possible.

6. Organize Everything in Containers :

Containers are real-life savers when it comes to organizing the home. Be it your wardrobe or an open cupboard in your living room.

Group the small items in one container and it looks well organized even though it is a small space.

Tip: Organize all the laundry items(Detergent, Softener, Liquid) in one tray near the washing machine, which is handy as well as organized

7. Use Minimal Furniture:

Use as less furniture as you can. Even though we might be in the mood to buy attractive furniture that suits our home, it is not the right thing to do always.

Until and Unless, it is a must need at home, we can avoid them.

Tip: I use my large trolley(polycarbonate) as my computer/laptop table instead of buying a table. Make it covered with a nice blanket/cloth and add color to the desk.

8. Declutter frequently:

Decluttering is the most important step in organizing a small home. Declutter the home every 15 days.

Choose the ones that are not in use, or just disposables or any delicate plastics you got from grocery/meal delivery, Better to eliminate them.

Decluttering your wardrobe can help you get rid of old stuff and give space for new ones.

9. Clear the Countertop

If you have a nice countertop in your kitchen, make sure you organize it with movable trays or with the appliances you need.

Too much on the countertop will be messy. Choose properly about your needs and cover the rest of the items in the cupboards.

The same goes with any TV Unit if you have one. Add only ones that serve the proper use and do not scatter things on the TV Unit.
